Programs and Services

ASI as a “service provider” to the courts and in its role as such, creates programming based on the needs of the various courts it serves. All programs are creative and innovative using the latest trends in diversion, alternative sentencing and other methods in educating adult and juvenile offenders, which are proving to be a more positive and lasting solution to the crime problem. All instructors for the following programs are certified and are highly trained professionals, most of which are retired law enforcement personnel.

  • ALABAMA SAFETY INSTITUTE DRIVER EDUCATION COURSE (LEVEL I & LEVEL II)

    Level I is a four (4) hour course that includes the latest in Alabama laws, road rage, rules of the road, defensive techniques, etc. Level II is an advanced six (6) hour course suggested for aggravated and repeat offenders. The six hour course is approved by the Alabama Department of Public Safety for drivers who are age 55 and up, to receive a discount off their car insurance premium. Course material is approved by the Alabama Department of Public Safety. These courses are also available to Spanish speaking individuals.

    CDL PREPARATION COURSE
    The course is designed to prepare those drivers who are seeking to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). This course addresses all necessary educational components with the exception of hands-on driving. The course may also be used as a refresher or continuing education for drivers who already have their CDL. Do I need a CDL license?

    EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATOR'S COURSE (EVOC)
    A six (6) hour course designed to educate public safety employees on driving defensively, maintaining control of their vehicle and how to safely handle the hazards that emergency response driving presents. Risks involved in operating emergency vehicles, responsibilities to the public and Alabama Law (Title 32) are also discussed.

    ALABAMA COURT REFERRAL EDUCATION PROGRAM (SUBSTANCE ABUSE/DUI LEVEL I & LEVEL II)
    Level I is a twelve (12) hour program designed to educate the DUI/drug offender about the risks and consequences of alcohol and other drug use.  Level II is an intensive twenty-four (24) hour course designed for aggravated and repeat offenders and involves group participation.  Both Level I and Level II are certified through the ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF COURTS . (All drug and alcohol offenders must be referred through the Court Referral Officer)

    JUVENILE SUBSTANCE ABUSE EDUCATION PROGRAM
    A twelve (12) hour course designed to educate and prevent juveniles/young adults from unacceptable behavior. The program covers all phases of youthful offender behavior problems. This program is certified through the ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF COURTS .  (All offenders must be referred through the Court Referral Officer)

    ANGER MANAGEMENT INTERVENTION PROGRAM

    A twelve (12) hour course designed to help offenders in cases of aggressive behavior learn better, more productive ways of responding to anger and conflicts in their lives. The program addresses negative and deviant behaviors of serious and repeat offenders.

    LIFE SKILLS EDUCATION PROGRAMS

    The Life Sills Education Program is taught in a classroom setting allowing for the interaction with other students.  Facilitators address issues of life such as family, work, financial matters, and health.  The stress from everyday life can result in depression and health issues.  The goal of the program is to promote a better understanding of how life effects us and bring about a better quality of life.

    CRIME OF THEFT INTERVENTION
    This program is provided in four 2 hour sessions. Clients learn about the problem of shoplifting and the legal response. They learn about the personal and social consequences related to stealing. Through group interaction, clients develop a plan for eliminating theft related behavior in the future.
